Winemaker Notes
Fresh, lively, honeyed
The 2023 Vino Gelato is made from Ponzi Vineyards Historical Estate Riesling (50%) and Muscat (50%) from LIVE Certified Sustainable Alloro Vineyard in the Laurelwood District AVA.
WINEMAKER'S NOTES: Made in a style similar to ice wine, grapes are pressed after harvest and the juice is frozen solid. As the mass begins to melt, the intensely sweet juice begins to melt, first leaving behind water. We diligently taste as the juice runs join with some of the water, usually over a three day period. Once the desired sweetness, flavor and acid profile have been achieved, we begin the fermentation process. In most cases, the starting juice is at 35 Brix or higher. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and bottled in the spring of the following year.
This vintage has stunning aromatics with notes of lychee, rambutan, ginseng , lemon grass, golden hay, kefir lime, meringue/pavlova, tangerine, honey, passion fruit, white florals. The mouth is balanced between sweetness and acidity offering lime syrup, lavender, white florals, nectarine, mango sticky rice, passion fruit, toasted almond, sea foam.
